Discovery and emotion ...lose yourserf in pure nature of Sicily
WELCOME
Sicily, a world itself
We love our land and we have visited the most beautiful places in Sicily and Mount Etna, so we can suggest itineraries, tours, horseback riding, biking, walking, boating and whatever makes our island a world apart.
Blue seas, a black volcano, black, narrow streets and alleys, typical food and cannoli...
...and rich museums, palaces, Baroque churches, ancient theatres, pottery shops, lace, coral, jewellery, antiques and well known brand shops are just a few kilometres far from the house.
Il Tanaceto is the ideal starting point for day trips to the artistic and natural sights of Eastern Sicily, like the mythical Taormina, Mount Etna, the fishing village of Acitrezza, the Baroque town of Acireale and its coastline, Catania with its lava stone buildings, Caltagirone - the city famous for its ceramics, Argimusco plateau, and many more
The closer destinations from the house are worth a trip and are only a few hours far from it!
We strongly recommend Alcantara Gorges to lovers of nature trails. In thousands years the river Alcantara has created a valley that owes its fame to its particular formation flows from Mount Etna, locally known as "gorges". They have sheer vertical walls for dozens of meters. You can admire them just walking in the canyons and, if you want, you can swim in the river!
Castiglione is one of them. As early as 403 BC the Greeks, inhabited this town after building a fortress. After them the Romans and the Arabs came. They built bridges and bred crocodiles in the river Alcantara. Then Castiglione became a royal city with the Normans and the Swabians. Its legendary castle, rich palaces and churches are still admired. "Cannizzu" - a lookout tower split in two after being hit by lightning - is really impressive. Santa Domenica’s Church is also worth a visit; it is a rare, valuable example of Byzantine domed building of the seventh century.
Randazzo overlooks the Alcantara Valley lying at the center of what was once the Val Demone. Churches, palaces, museums, narrow streets are all built of lava stone, which is a real pearl of the environmental and architectural made precious by the presence of three protected areas such as the Regional Park of Etna, the Nebrodi and the Alcantara River Park. Each corner offers a different view, impressive vistas and unique discover the traces of its ancient civilization and the signs of its medieval splendour. You can also venture out to the paths that wind along stretches of lava, ancient and recent up to Monte Spanish and its beech forest, the ice Cave, the Cave and the nature Trail Shea, the ancient paths of the shepherds and other witnesses again.
